This week our focus has been on preparing for Pink Shirt Day on Friday. This idea began in 2007 in Canada when two students supported another student when they were bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. The New Zealand motto is:
Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!
On Friday we ask that students wear something pink. If it is not pink, it needs to be school uniform. For example, they can wear a pink shirt but need to wear school shorts, longs or skort. It is not a mufti day!!! Anything pink will be accepted. Students are also asked to bring a gold coin donation if they are wearing pink and this goes to the pink shirt organisation that supports schools and workplaces with resources and activities. Click on the link below for more information and ideas that you can do at home to reinforce the message that we are sending at school.
